SANTA CLARITA VALLEY FAMILY YMCA ANNOUNCES $5 MILLION LAND DEAL IN FUTURE KEYSTONE MASTERPLAN

SANTA CLARITA, CA —Costa Mesa-based Brookfield Homes has agreed to transfer four acres of land to the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA for the purpose of developing a new 35,000-square-foot YMCA facility in Santa Clarita. Valued at approximately $5 million, the land is located at the junction of Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road within the Keystone masterplanned community in Canyon Country. Brookfield Homes is the master developer behind the city-approved Keystone community, which will add 499 new residences to vacant land stretching between the Ruether industrial area and the ridges south of Plum Canyon Road.

“The new YMCA facility, as well as the dedicated park land, proposed community recreation center and school site at Keystone, represent a commitment on the part of Brookfield to strengthen the quality of life for Santa Clarita’s kids and families,” noted John O’Connell, Chairman of the Santa Clarita Valley Board of Managers. “Thanks to their generosity, we are finally able to undertake a much-needed expansion and open our arms to an even greater number of people in the Santa Clarita Valley community.”

O’Connell says Santa Clarita has outgrown the current 13,500-square-foot YMCA facility that sits at McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard. Recent studies conducted by the YMCA Board estimate that the new facility would serve approximately 15,000 youth, teens, and adults.

Led by O’Connell, the YMCA Board of Managers will begin a multi-year fundraising effort to raise the estimated $12 million necessary to construct a new YMCA in Santa Clarita. The new facility will include an indoor swimming pool, exercise areas, teen and youth activity areas, locker rooms, and offices.

“Our plan for Keystone has always been to create a community that paid just as much attention to lifestyle opportunities like recreation centers and parks as to new residential opportunities,” said Adrian Foley, President of Brookfield Homes Southland. “Donating this land to the YMCA is one of the first steps we’ve taken towards turning our vision for Keystone into a reality. We are looking forward to the impact that a new YMCA will have on both Keystone and the surrounding community of Canyon Country.”
